Congratulations, Javon, our Champion Award Winner

You have a heart of gold. Every day, we see your heart in the work we do, the community we support, and participants who are living their lives to the fullest. This year, we proudly share the remarkable achievement of one of our participants, who received the prestigious Champion Award at the Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society’s Night of Champions.

The Night of Champions award ceremony is a celebration of exceptional individuals with disabilities who are shattering barriers, reshaping perceptions about accessible employment, and recognizing employers who wholeheartedly embrace inclusivity. “It is a showcase of what differently-abled people can do in the workplace when employers give them an opportunity,” said Joe Marchese, president of LDSS. Our Supported Employment participant, Javon, received this prestigious award this year. Our hearts swell with pride as we congratulate Javon Kelly, a valued member of the Leopold’s Ice Cream team. Javon has charmed his way into the hearts of all who cross his path, a fact evident in the numerous glowing Google reviews from delighted customers. Javon's journey is not just limited to his workplace success. He has recently embarked on a new chapter in his life by moving into his own place, and he attributes this newfound independence to the confidence he gained through his job. Javon's story is a testament to the transformative power of opportunity and inclusivity, and we couldn't be prouder of him and all our friends in the workforce.

This inspiring event is a fantastic opportunity to honor the hard work and dedication of our employees with disabilities. It also allows potential employers to see how beneficial an inclusive workforce can be. Dr. Ben Spitalnick says, "LCDSS has multiple new businesses reach out yearly after hearing businesses' testimonials at the event."
